Moonrunners is a 1975 film starring James Mitchum and Kiel Martin, which would be reworked several years later into the popular long-running television series The Dukes of Hazzard. The plot of the movie focused upon moonshine-running bootleggers eluding federal agents with fast cars. The story is narrated by the Balladeer (Waylon Jennings), who introduces and comments on the story of cousins, Grady and Bobby Lee Hagg, who run bootleg liquor for their Uncle Jesse of Shiloh County.

Prequel to the original Dukes of Hazzard show

This movie is gritty and probably more true to actual life than the TV series. A real prequel to the original TV show. I had never seen it before so I really noticed some of the things that continue into the series: Uncle Jessie's wonderful character, the boys using archery instead of guns, making moonshine is their heritage, womanizers, the thrill of car chases, and the disrespect they have for crooked law. The bar in this is even named the "Boar's Nest". Worth watching more than once. Some of the language is really rough but it just fits in with the show itself.
