29 July, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 30 July, 2017 @ 6:00 pm

Hey Y’all,

All of us down here at Cooter’s are getting fired up about “Cooter’s Last Stand”, which is coming up in a big hurry. I’m writing this on June 20 th , and the festival is on July 29 th and 30 th . So, counting on all my fingers and toes twice, that comes to about 40 days until the big shindig. And it shaping up to be a really BIG shindig.

I say that for two reasons: The motels and camp grounds in and around Page County are just about booked up. There are, however, rooms to be had in nearby towns like Harrisonburg, Staunton, Winchester and Front Royal. They are all within about a 45 minute drive. So we already know it’s going to be a fine and big gathering. Another good indicator of the crowd is that we are going to have a huge number of General Lees cruising in, since over 180 have registered so far, plus another 100 or so other Hazzard County cars. We haven’t had that many cars since the famous Nashville get-togethers in 2006 and 2007. Don’t worry, though, we’ve got plenty of room on our big field.

In fact, enough for the whole cast of The Dukes of Hazzard, a first class music concert, a Civil War re-enactment, wrestling with the Rock and Roll Express, a big heap of Southern cooking, plenty of kid’s rides and slides, car stunts, BMX stunts, lots of vendors, and a gospel sing on Sunday morning.

Free parking (as always) will be in adjoining pastures and folks can walk or catch a shuttle bus to the grounds.

We want this to be a memorable weekend for everyone and we hope everyone will “look out for one another” in the traditional Southern way.

I’ll be sending along more details in the upcoming days. There’s lots to talk about!

Y’all come,

Ben aka “Cooter”
and Miss Alma

Hey Y’all,

Ben Jones here. I just wanted to catch everybody up on how “Cooter’s Last Stand” is coming along. That’s our big event on July 29th and July 30th, at our new store in Luray, Virginia.

Miss Alma and I have come to think of “Hazzard Nation” as an extended family of good hearted folks from all over America and the World who would have ‘fit right in’ back in Hazzard County. Millions of our friends have simply refused to let “The Dukes of Hazzard” be destroyed by political correctness and anti-family programming. When we came on the air back in January of 1979, the critic for the Los Angeles Times told the world that “This show will not last past the first commercial break.” That was 37 years ago now and we are still going strong. And the reason we are still watched and loved all over the planet is because of our fans, who have been on this ride right along with us. And we look forward to thanking y’all personally at this great event.

John Schneider, Tom Wopat, Catherine Bach, Sonny Shroyer, Rick Hurst, and I will be at this one, along with friends like Don Pedro Colley (Sheriff Little) and Corey Eubanks, the great stuntman who started out with us when he was a teenager. Dorothy Best will be with us to reminisce about the wonderful James Best and her years with the “Dukes”. The Smith Brothers, ace car guys, will be there to do a “ramp to ramp” jump on both afternoons. And we already have about 65 General Lees registered for the Hazzard County Car Show, along with about 30 other Hazzard County cars.

And there is a family tradition theme going with the entertainment, too. Marty Haggard, Merle’s son, will be with us along with Wilson Fairchild, two great performers that are sons of the legendary Statler Brothers. Dale Jett and Hello Stranger will perform on Sunday. Dale is the grandson of A.P. and Sara Carter of the Original Carter Family. Also on Sunday we’ll have the amazing Bluegrass Brothers, who are as good as it gets when it comes to red hot pickin’.

As you know, we love that good ol’ rock and roll, and it doesn’t get any better than Sonny Burgess and The Legendary Pacers. Sonny and the Band started out at Sun Records in Memphis with Elvis, Jerry Lee, Johnny Cash, and all the other Rockabilly Kings. And they are still going strong all over the world.

You know how on those t.v. commercials the announcer will say, “But wait, there’s more!!” Well, there is a lot more: Keith King, the king of BMX, will be with us again, as hopefully will Jerry “The King” Lawler, still the Champ. We’ll have our great Saturday night fireworks show, and a Gospel Sing on Sunday morning. Our pal Lula Roman of “Hee-Haw” will join us for that.

Did I mention that Cooter’s Garage Band is going to be there and we’ll get it on with the whole cast one more time?

And, oh yes, there will be a large Civil War encampment, with a battle re-enactment, a cavalry skirmish, and the finest of the Civil War bands, the 2nd South Carolina String Band, who were featured in the films “Gettysburg” and “Gods and Generals”. (If you don’t like Rebel Flags, please don’t come!)

*It would be a good idea to book lodging as early as possible, since several motels in Luray are already booked up for that weekend. There are lots of motels, lodges, cabins, and campgrounds in the area, and many more along Interstate 81 within an hour of the event. There are also a number of motels in Front Royal, Va., which is about a half-hour from our show.

Parking will be free, and remember that this is a family event. Uncle Jesse’s rules apply:
No likker, no cussin’ and no fightin’. Bring a blanket or a folding chair and come ready for Summertime down South.

We’ll keep posting as things develop, but I do believe we already have the basics covered for some very very memorable good times in Hazzard.
