DON PEDRO COLLEY (1938-2017)
We are sad to announce the passing of our friend and colleague Don Pedro Colley who died this past week after a very courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by his family, his friends, and his fans, and he will be remembered by all for his wit, his talents, and his good heart.
Personally, I am gratified that we had the chance to spend time together twice this past year, at a show in up in Ontario, Canada and at “Cooter’s Last Stand” here in Virginia. Though he was battling a life-threatening condition, he did not let it get him down. He was in rare form, laughing that huge laugh and telling tales from his career with great gusto.
And the last time I saw him, we were leaning on each other at the onstage finale of the “Last Stand”, just two good ol’ boys still having fun in Hazzard County.
Don Pedro was a big man with a big voice, a big smile, a big laugh, and a big heart. He loved his role as Sheriff “Big Ed” Little on the “Dukes of Hazzard” as much as anything he ever did in his remarkably diverse life.
One thing we have all come to know is that Don Pedro will continue to be seen all over the world, wherever and whenever anyone is watching the “Dukes”. And even though he was a huge fellow, there is plenty of room for Don Pedro Colley up in Heaven.
Rest in Peace, old friend, Rest in Peace.
