A Few of the Most Iconic Cars From Television History

Without a doubt, television has produced some of the most memorable trends and iconic items in American history. From I Love Lucy to The Dukes of Hazzard memorabilia and related pop culture like daisy dukes, the list goes on and on.

However, nothing gets fans quite as excited as a fantastical car. Here are just a few of the most iconic cars that television has produced over the years.

1960s
The Mystery Machine
From the inception of the cartoon to the final live-action movie, Scooby Doo’s 1963 Ford Econoline Custom Van has continued to inspire fans around the world. The van’s paint job and custom “The Mystery Machine” logo have truly become an iconic feature of pop culture.

The Love Bug
The Volkswagen Beetle has always been an iconic car, but the 1962 model became truly iconic after Herbie the Love Bug came onto the scene. Complete with custom racing stripes, this Beetle even got a reboot in 2005 featuring Lindsay Lohan in Herbie: Fully Loaded.

1970s
Starsky and Hutch
All of the stunt and model cars used in this series varied in model year from 1974 to 1976 because the body style of the car was unchanged during that period of time. Its stunts and style made it one of the most iconic cars of the decade.

1980s
The DeLorean
Perhaps one of the most iconic film franchises of all time, Back to the Future introduced audiences to hoverboards, the hilarity of manure, and most importantly, the DeLorean. The 1982 DeLorean DMC-12 used as the time traveling car in this franchise quickly became iconic, and still is today.

The General Lee
Of all the Dukes of Hazzard toys produced in the world, the vast majority of them are modeled on the 1969 custom painted Dodge Charger. Directors even bought the custom “Dixie” horn for $300 before filming started. Now, many collectors have diecast 1:18 scale General Lees and other Dukes of Hazzard model cars. Most of the diecast 1:18 scale General Lees even have the custom rebel flag license plate that the original film car did.

While there are many iconic items that have stuck throughout the years, it’s safe to say that these cars are a few of the most memorable.
