NASHVILLE, TN (August 30th & 31st, 2008) -- Nashville’s Music Valley will be the setting for “Cooter’s Rally in the Valley”, an event that will feature cars, stars, music, and family fun. According to Ben Jones, who played “Cooter” on the Dukes of Hazzard and is the proprietor of Cooter’s Place, the popular Dukes venue on McGavock Pike, the get together is “priced for this economy.”
“It’s free,” he says. The festivities are scheduled for Labor Day weekend, with music, cars, and personal appearances on Saturday, Aug. 30th and Sunday, Aug. 31st. “There is never an admission at Cooter’s. Plus, we’ll have a free cruise-in featuring classic cars, mopars, street rods, and Dukes cars. There’s also plenty of live entertainment on the schedule. Cooter’s Garage Band will be playing at The Nashville Palace on Saturday night, and in Music Valley Village on Sunday afternoon. In addition, we’ll be guests at the Midnight Jamboree on Saturday night at the Texas Troubadour Theater and at Cowboy Church on Sunday morning!”
There are a number of activities planned throughout the weekend for families and kids. There are inflatables, a dunking booth, face painting, costumed characters and involvement from various organizations in the community. The Davidson County Sheriff's Office Child Fingerprinting & I.D. Program will be on hand Saturday from
3 to 5 p.m. The process is an inkless system that provides prints of all the child's fingers. This information sheet is given to the parents to fill out and store in a safe place. They also provide various information books to the children and the parents at the event along with Jr. Deputy Stickers. SherRUFF the agency mascot will also be on hand to visit with the kids and take pictures.
Jones will be joined at the event by fellow Dukes cast member Rick Hurst, who played Deputy Cletus Hogg on the international hit show. The two will host a luncheon at the Nashville Palace from noon to 1p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Admission will be charged for the BBQ lunch.
According to Jones, who also has “Cooter’s” venues in Gatlinburg and Branson, Music Valley is Nashville’s “best kept secret.” “Since the new Briley Parkway has been finished, Music Valley is starting to take off,” he says. “With gas prices being what they are, folks are taking shorter trips and staying closer to home. It wouldn’t surprise me if Music Valley isn’t competing with other tourist destinations like Branson within just a few years. And why not? We’re the Opry’s next door neighbor!”
Another highlight of the weekend is a sneak peak at one of Music Valley’s newest attractions called the Stars and Cars Museum. Stars and Cars will offer free admission to rally visitors on Labor Day Weekend, and Music Valley Merchant Association President T. Clark Miller says a number of area businesses are getting involved. “Several restaurants, hotels and retailers in Music Valley are offering discounts and incentives to help make this a great event as we come to the unofficial close of the summer travel season.”
Visitors can pick up an orange wristband at Cooter’s Place to obtain discounts at participating retailers. Festivities begin Saturday morning and continue through Sunday afternoon.
